Domain alert! Even as the world gears up to return to Westeros with the upcoming premiere of Season 2 of “House of the Dragon,” the first expansion of “Game of Thrones” to hit the airwaves, HBO is said to be looking further into the future, towards more Navy series, which they initially decided to move forward with. In a new post on his personal website (yes, some of those baby boomers still have it), author George R.R. Martin highlighted a very important update called “10,000 Ships.” While congratulating author Ebony Booth on winning the Pulitzer Prize for her work “Primary Truth,” Martin went on to reveal that Booth will also be writing a new pilot episode for the series “10,000 Ships.” Who saw this coming:++++
“[Booth’s] An incredibly talented young playwright with whom it is a pleasure to work; When she’s not writing and producing her award-winning plays on and off Broadway, she’s been busy with HBO and me, working on a new pilot for ‘TEN THOUSAND SHIPS,’ a spin-off of ‘GAME OF THRONES’ about Nymeria and the Rhoynar. “We’re all very excited about this… although we’re still trying to figure out how we’re going to afford ten thousand ships, three hundred dragons, and those giant turtles.”++++
While HBO tends to offer almost unlimited budgets for its flagship programs, we… He thinks Martin is having fun with those ships and dragons. (On the other hand, The “giant turtle” line refers to a small god. It’s probably a factor in the series). We know the broad strokes of what initially inspired this series. …But it remains to be seen if this new creative hire means the series will take a slightly different approach than before. Fingers crossed that this gets the green light!
