Stars secure No. 1 seed in Western Conference playoffs with 2-1 shootout victory over Blues

The Dallas Stars ended their regular season on a high note, securing the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference playoffs with a 2-1 shootout victory over the St. Louis Blues. Goalie Jake Oettinger was the hero of the night, making 26 saves in regulation and overtime before stopping all three shootout attempts.

The Stars clinched the top seed in the West by earning a point in overtime, but they didn’t stop there. Jason Robertson scored a beautiful backhand goal in the shootout to secure the extra point. With this win, Dallas finished the season with 113 points, their highest since 1998-99 when they won the Stanley Cup.

Fans at the American Airlines Center cheered as the Stars locked in home-ice advantage throughout the Western Conference playoffs. The team will face either the Vegas Golden Knights or the Los Angeles Kings in the first round. Both teams have a chance to finish as the third seed in the Pacific Division, setting up an exciting matchup for Dallas.

Despite being eliminated from playoff contention, the Blues put up a strong fight against the Stars. Goalie Jordan Binnington made 36 saves, but Mason Marchment’s third-period goal was the only one that got past him in regulation. St. Louis finished the season in ninth place in the Western Conference, five points behind the final playoff spot.

Oettinger’s highlight-reel save in the first period showcased his exceptional skills, as he dove across the net to deny a scoring chance on a Blues power play. The penalty that led to the power play was a tripping call against Evgenii Dadonov, who returned to the lineup after missing 29 games due to injury.

Looking ahead, the Stars will await their first-round opponent and prepare for the start of the playoffs. St. Louis faces another offseason of reflection and reevaluation after missing the playoffs in back-to-back years for the first time since 2011.

As the postseason approaches, the Dallas Stars are gearing up for what promises to be an exciting and competitive playoff run. Stay tuned for more updates on their journey towards the Stanley Cup.
