Ruiz and Lipscomb lead Nationals to 6-3 victory over White Sox in doubleheader opener

The Washington Nationals emerged victorious in the first game of a straight doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox, winning 6-3. Keibert Ruiz and Trey Lipscomb were instrumental in the Nationals’ three-run eighth inning, with each player hitting an RBI single. Joey Meneses had an impressive performance, going 4 for 4 and driving in two runs for Washington. Lipscomb also stood out with three hits and three stolen bases.

Pitcher Derek Law secured the win for the Nationals, while Kyle Finnegan closed out the game with his 13th save of the season. On the White Sox side, Eloy Jiménez hit a solo homer and Tommy Pham contributed with two hits and an RBI.

The game was part of a doubleheader scheduled after Monday’s series opener was postponed due to rain. In a back-and-forth match, the White Sox managed to tie the game 3-3 in the fifth inning before the Nationals pulled ahead in the eighth.

The White Sox had a chance to rally in the ninth inning, but the Nationals’ defense held strong with Zach Remillard making a crucial forceout and Nicky Lopez striking out to end the game. Rookie third baseman Bryan Ramos had to exit the game early due to a left quad injury.

Starting pitcher Trevor Williams gave up one earned run and four hits in five innings for the Nationals. Chris Flexen got the start for the White Sox and allowed three runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.

In injury news, White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr. and infielder Yoán Moncada are making progress in their recovery, while Nationals outfielder Jesse Winker is feeling better after dealing with back spasms.

The second game of the doubleheader will feature Nationals left-hander Mitchell Parker facing off against White Sox right-hander Erick Fedde, who will be pitching against his former team for the first time.
