Richard Gere and his family recently made a rare appearance at the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival. The actor was accompanied by his wife, Alejandra Silva, and his eldest son, Homer James Jigme Gere. Homer, who is 24 years old, looked dashing in a matching black tuxedo with his father, while Silva stunned in a black floor-length gown embroidered with pink flowers. The trio attended the premiere of Gere’s new film “Oh, Canada” on May 17th and later celebrated at the afterparty hosted by Veuve Clicquot.
“Oh, Canada” is directed by Paul Schrader and based on Russell Banks’ novel “Foregone.” It follows the story of a dying writer who flees to Canada to avoid the draft for the Vietnam War. Gere shares Homer with his second ex-wife, Carey Lowell, and has two younger sons, Alexander and another child born in 2020, with Silva. The couple secretly tied the knot in 2018 after three years of dating.
In an interview with HOLA! Magazine, Gere expressed his happiness in finding a quiet and happy life with Silva. He mentioned that meeting her gave meaning to his life and brought light into his world. Similarly, Silva shared that meeting Gere felt like someone showing her the true path in life.
Prioritizing family over work has always been important to Gere. In a 2015 interview with Hindustan Times, he mentioned that his son, Homer, is his top priority. Gere is careful not to be away from his son for too long and considers his family more important than any project or job opportunity that comes his way.
Homer, who mostly stays out of the limelight, is starting to show an interest in acting. Gere shared in an interview with Vanity Fair Spain that his son has begun writing and directing his own short films, which has created a new common ground for the father-son duo. Despite not fully understanding his father’s level of fame, Homer is finding his own path in the entertainment industry and appears to be enjoying the creative process.
Richard Gere and his family continue to show a strong bond and commitment to each other, navigating the ups and downs of fame and Hollywood life together. Their rare appearances and heartfelt moments captured at events like the Cannes Film Festival showcase their love and unity as a family.
