Kilfoyl gives up only 3 hits as Oklahoma State defeats Arizona 8-0 in Game 1 of the super regional

The No. 5 national seed Oklahoma State Cowgirls made a statement on Friday night with an impressive 8-0 victory over Arizona in Game 1 of the Stillwater Super Regional. Led by a stellar performance from pitcher Lexi Kilfoyl, the Cowgirls were firing on all cylinders as they took a commanding lead early in the game.

Kilfoyl pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out three batters. The Cowgirls’ offense was equally impressive, with Karli Godwin, Claire Timm, and Micaela Wark each hitting a home run to power the team to victory.

The scoring started in the first inning when Jilyen Poullard crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Caroline Wang, followed by a single from Godwin to bring home Tallen Edwards. Timm and Wark then launched back-to-back home runs to extend the lead. Godwin added to her impressive night with a two-out solo homer in the third inning, before being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in a five-run fourth inning.

With the win, Oklahoma State now has the opportunity to clinch a berth in the Women’s College World Series with a victory in Game 2 of the series on Saturday. The Cowgirls extended their NCAA tournament home win streak to 15 games and earned their first run-rule win in a super regional.

Despite a valiant effort from Arizona, the Wildcats were unable to generate much offense against the dominant pitching of Kilfoyl. Emily Schepp managed to advance to third base in the fifth inning, but the Cowgirls shut down any hopes of a comeback to secure the victory.

Overall, Oklahoma State’s performance in Game 1 showcased their talent and determination as they aim to reach the pinnacle of collegiate softball. Fans can expect an exciting Game 2 on Saturday as the Cowgirls look to punch their ticket to the Women’s College World Series. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting super regional matchup.
