Investigation into Matthew Perry’s death linked to ketamine in his bloodstream

Authorities in Los Angeles have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of beloved actor Matthew Perry, who passed away after ingesting a fatal amount of ketamine. Police are working in conjunction with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service to determine how Perry obtained such a large supply of the drug, which is typically used for anesthesia during surgeries.

Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit show “Friends,” was discovered face down in his hot tub by his assistant on October 28. Paramedics were unable to revive him, and his autopsy later revealed that the ketamine in his system was at levels consistent with general anesthesia. Alongside drowning, the ketamine was listed as the primary cause of death, with other medical issues contributing to the tragedy.

Those close to Perry informed coroner’s investigators that the actor had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy, a treatment that has gained popularity in recent years for its use in depression, anxiety, and pain management. However, the medical examiner noted that Perry’s last treatment was over a week prior to his death, and the levels of ketamine in his system were not consistent with normal metabolism rates.

Perry had a long history of struggles with addiction, which dated back to his time on “Friends.” While no illicit drugs were found in his home, the investigation will focus on uncovering how he obtained the ketamine that ultimately led to his untimely death.

In similar cases involving celebrity deaths due to drug overdoses, individuals responsible for supplying the substances have faced legal consequences. For example, after rapper Mac Miller died from an overdose involving fentanyl-laced counterfeit oxycodone, individuals responsible for distributing the drugs were convicted and sentenced to lengthy prison terms.

The investigation into Matthew Perry’s death will seek to determine if anyone should be held accountable for supplying him with the ketamine that resulted in his passing. As authorities work to uncover the truth behind this tragic event, the entertainment industry continues to grapple with the repercussions of substance abuse and addiction among its talented stars.
